Eesha’s Early Excerpt #6: Optimizing our Productivity

“Don't let yesterday take up too much of today.” – Will Rogers

Society today is evolutionizing exponentially. What does this mean? Productivity is necessary. We study while we eat, we read while we run, and all of this to produce the most amount of results possible. And while there are the standard productivity hacks such as, delegate work, avoid multitasking, pomodoro methods etc. I find that recently there has been one thing that hinders my ability to max out on my productivity. That is letting go of the past, and focusing on the present. This is a vague concept, that is applicable in many forms. Sports, studies, habits, and lifestyle. For example, If you feel yourself not being consistent with the habits you desire to inhibit, allowing the feeling of disappointment to consume you is unproductive. Instead, it’s important that we let go of these emotions in order to focus on making whatever we have at hand better. Similarly, I have had days where my game might be off while practicing a sport, however, getting ingested by the discouragement will have no positive improvement on how I play in the moment. The most productive thing to do is to learn from it, and think about making the next practice even better. In a bigger picture, if you have spent the last few days dwelling in laziness or unsatisfied, feeling regret or disheartened will not allow you to succeed in the present. So what is the answer? Learning from your mistake or past, and seeing it in a positive mindset to allow yourself to improve the moments ahead of you. Will Rogers once said “don’t let yesterday take up too much of today.” So for the next week, try to let go of anything other than what is in front of you and practice making it the best you can.
