March is the celebration of the infinite power that women hold. Donna Najafi goes into the history of International Women's Day, and the effect it has on our generation. For decades women were discredited and mistreated, now we yearn and work for a society where equality is normalized and present all around. Now, lets let Ms. Najafi take it away...
This Monday, March eighth, was marked the 110th celebration of International Women’s
Day. The month of March is commonly known for Saint Patrick's Day and March Madness but
should be known for appreciating the incredible achievements and contributions that women
have made to our world. We have Clara Zetkin to thank for the idea for this celebration. She
suggested an international celebration of women in 1910 at an International Conference of
Working Women in Copenhagen. Her idea of a day dedicated to women was unanimously agreed on, marking March 8th, 1911 as the first celebration of International Women’s day.
Women have paved their way into society after being looked to as the inferior gender.
From our achievements in economy, society, politics, and all the other subjects in which we
refuse to remain silent. Our accomplishments have changed the world as we know it, but due to
the lack of gender equality rooted in our culture, we often do not get credits for them.
It’s Time We Face It! By spreading awareness towards inequalities that we still face, we can keep moving forward in our journey for absolute equality. Show your support by wearing the colors
purple, green, or white. Make it known and spread awareness in any way you can! This holiday
allows us, women, to receive the recognition we deserve. By celebrating International Women's
Day, we are one step closer to making the world see us all as equals. The way it should be.
